Day 5

Oaxaca awaits!

After a delicious breakfast, make your way to the airport and take your flight to Oaxaca City.

One of the best locations to experience the Day of the Dead, due to its deep-rooted traditions, vibrant cultural expressions, and unique atmosphere during this sacred celebration, is without a doubt, Oaxaca. The city absolutely changes its colors, decorates its streets with flowers, and almost every bar, shop, restaurant, and house places an altar (ofrenda) to the loved ones that have departed.

Oaxaca comes alive like nowhere else during Día de Muertos, creating a wonderful atmosphere and a celebration of life. On your arrival to Oaxaca you'll be warmly welcomed and transported to your luxury hotel via private transfer.

For the late afternoon, go on a guided walking tour starting at Plaza Cruz de Piedra, and explore the city's history and traditions, then proceed to Santo Domingo Plaza, beautifully decorated for Día de Muertos. The procession leads us to the cemetery, transformed by thousands of offerings and altars into a vibrant celebration of life. We continue to the colorful neighborhood of Jalatlaco, where local altars and offerings create a joyful atmosphere. The evening ends with a delightful dinner in an exclusive setting.

Day 6

Monte Albán, Arrazola, Convent, and San Bartolo Coyotepec

We’ll begin our day at Monte Albán, the former center of Zapotec power, offering panoramic views from its strategic mountain location. Next, we'll visit Arrazola, known for its vibrant alebrijes, intricately carved wooden figures with imaginative designs. Local craftsmen will share the stories behind their creations.

Our journey continues to Cuilapam de Guerrero to explore the historic 16th-century Dominican convent, including the Open Chapel and the unfinished basilica, where General Vicente Guerrero was executed.

Finally, we’ll head to San Bartolo Coyotepec to see traditional Barro Negro pottery. At Dona Rosa’s house, we’ll learn about the artisanal process and visit workshops where this unique black clay pottery is made.

Day 7

Tule, Teotitlán, Mitla, Hierve el Agua, and a mezcal factory

Today’s tour will take us to the legendary City of the Dead, Mitla, with several highlights along the way. We’ll start at El Árbol del Tule, a 2000-year-old cypress adorned with animal shapes, sparking the imagination.

Next, we'll visit Teotitlán del Valle, known for its wool rugs. Artisans will demonstrate the traditional process, from wool gathering to dyeing with natural ingredients. We’ll then explore Mitla, the 'City of the Dead,' with its Mixtec architecture and syncretic churches built on pyramids.

Our journey continues to Hierve el Agua, where we’ll marvel at natural petrified waterfalls. We’ll finish with a visit to a Mezcal factory in Oaxaca, learning about the production process and enjoying a tasting of this traditional spirit.
